Meet Bonnie

The instructor and community builder behind Bon Mahj — bringing the joy of Mah Jongg to the Raleigh-Durham area.

Bonnie, Mah Jongg instructor and founder of Bon Mahj

Hi, I'm Bonnie!

I'm a certified Mah Jongg instructor based in the Raleigh-Durham area. I fell in love with American Mah Jongg and knew I had to share it with as many people as possible.

What started as a personal passion quickly turned into a mission: building a welcoming community where anyone can learn, practice, and enjoy this incredible game. Whether you're brand new to tiles or a seasoned player, I want you to feel at home at the table.

Through Bon Mahj, I offer beginner workshops, guided practice sessions, open play events, and private lessons — all designed to meet you where you are and help you fall in love with the game too.

Hands-On Learning

The best way to learn Mah Jongg is by playing. Every session gets you picking up tiles as quickly as possible.

Mistakes are part of the game. Our sessions are relaxed, supportive, and always enjoyable.

Mah Jongg is more than a game — it is about the people around the table and the connections you make.

My Mah Jongg Story

I discovered Mah Jongg through a friend and was instantly hooked. The combination of strategy, social connection, and the satisfying click of tiles drew me in — and I haven't looked back since. These days, you can often find me playing online at ilovemahj.com, where I'm frequently ranked #1.

Now I get to share that excitement with others every week. There is nothing better than watching someone light up when they call "Mah Jongg!" for the first time.
